Welcome to 1st semester Library Media Aides

This year, you will write at least one paragraph every night that you had a Library Media Aide class during the day. The purpose for this assignment is to strengthen your descriptive writing skills and provide a record for yourself, your parents and for me about what you do each day during this class. I prefer a well-written, correctly spelled descriptive record of what you did during your Library Media Aide class. This blog participation is one rubric for this class. The more that you write the higher your grade will be in the class.

Then, we looked in the behind the desk room and saw everything in there. Now ,we are typing this for our grade. Before I started typing, I made a gmail acount so I could stay in tune with what is going on. When I say we, I am talking about Thomas and me. We stayed in here a long time because the classes got extended. It is awsome!!! To bad I have to leave next year. :(

First day of school!!!Today Ms. Roof showed us where the non-fiction, fiction, and reference books were. We wrote down everything from our phone number to our gmail account. My friend that is in Media Aide with me had to make one. I made a new gmail though because I forgot my password. I am going to arrange the fiction books while my friend arranges the non-fiction part of the library. There was a new student that is coming to school but she didn't show. Anyways, today was very fun, I want to do Media Aide next year!

We then check in books for an eighth grade class (I didn't know Ms. Wikle teaches 8th). There was one suspicious kid who was asking about five too many questions.

I hate these stupid things where you type in the letters. It always makes me do it twice.

Today was our first early release day at Meadows so class went by fast. Ms. Roof had us work in the backroom of the library and sort magizines by their title and date. After that an 8th grade class came in so we helped them check out books. That seemed like it took forever because we still had ten minutes after that, but finally the bell rang.

Today I was so happy that it was Friday and that I had made it through the first week of 7th grade. Today Ms. Roof had us finish what the last class did not finish. We had to see how many copies of certain books that the library had, and we had to write their call number down. Afterwards a fifth grade class came in and we helped them check out books. It may have been Friday but class took forever!

Today we check out a sixth grade class. I had a hard time with names. My old teacher was the teacher who brought the kids in and she refered to us as the Librarians(only because roof was not there :) ).

Today was a simple class, Ms. Roof had us just straighten out our shelves. I had the fiction section, from P to T. It did not take that long, but afterwards Ms. Roof had us put these big signs that told you the first letter of the title, in the book shelves. I did it so fast that now, I am blogging early.

Today we put the shelf organizers in the book cases. I had an easy time doing this. I also killed a cricket =D.

Yesterday, we helped check out books to fifth graders and it really fun, I hope to do it again!! Today was Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Today we put call number stickers on the books that needed them. We also put stickers on the front covers of them.

On that day we just checked in a bunch of books but when they didn’t off after I kept on magnetizing, I stated to get very irritated. But eventually Mrs. Roof helped us figure out that their was something wrong with the book which was a great relief.

Today is the 21sy and boy did I do a lot today. First off I checked in books and magnetized them, which was a relief because I got every single one in a row I was so happy. After that I filed the fiction books in alphabetical order that I had checked in and magnetized. And them Mrs. Roof helped me figure out what was wrong with my blogging profile it seemed as though I wasn’t on the right page. And now I am blogging and making up for all of them I didn’t do.

Today was a very fun and crazy class period. First Ms. Roof let us all play and draw on the smartboard. We all drew some crazy things and you will never guess what we did next. Ms. Roof let us use and play with the microphones in the library. Today was a fun class.

Then we, by accident, taped the barcode numbers with scotch tape, instead of see through tape, so we had to print most of the barcodes out from the computer, yikes.

Today there was a short turn out, only me and Micheal showed up. So we had to do a lot of work, but it was fun work. Ms. Roof had us update the powerpoint, making the new lunch menus, birthdays, and also the sports dates. It took us nearly through the whole class period, but it was fun.

Today in Media Aide, we checked out books to students. We also checked in books. The last thing we did was put up posters that had to do with the election and the Constitution on the bulletin board.

Then I put all the books back that were on the cart, on the shelves where they belong, which was sort of tiring because I had to go from one shelf to another. Then we had to blog about what we did today, which is sort of fun, but it gets tiring after a while, but if we want good grades, I guess it's worth it.

Ah, the elusive paragraph, just the mention of its name sends shivers down the spines of fearful writers. However, when faced with writing one, it’s really not all that difficult if you just remember its purpose, to discuss one topic. A simple formula exists which helps in the process, and I’m happy to share it with writers of all sorts. The first sentence in a paragraph is the most important since its job is to inform the reader just what the topic is, thus its name, the topic sentence. Now, wait a minute, there is a bit more to a topic sentence than that, it also must grab the reader’s attention. Once you’ve done that, your next job is to give three “juicy” details (as Ivy so nicely put it) so the reader becomes more knowledgeable about the topic being discussed. Depending on just how “juicy” the detail is, you will most likely need to explain more, thus creating at least one or two additional sentences per detail; this is called supporting your ideas. Lastly, when you have finished writing on the subject, you need to let your reader know one of two things, whether you’ve completed the topic, or if you’re moving on to something else. A closing sentence provides that opportunity for you. So, as you can see, writing a paragraph isn’t all that scary – go ahead, give it a try.

We made more folders for one of the secretaries. We also put more stuff into teachers mailboxes. the folders were hard at first because there were a lot of papers that needed to be in them. I got the hang of the folders after awhile. That is what I did in media aide today.

Today Mrs.Roof let us play with her smart baord and microphones. I have never used the smartboard or microphones so it was very fun. today was the best day of media aid so far.

Today Mary and Scott did not come to class. Tim and I had to make all the new lunch menus and birthday stuff. It took a long time.

Today we hung up posters in class. It was very simple. Then we were able to blog in class. =D!!!

Sharon filing the emergency cards in a box and I was putting papers in a file. I like working with the nurse.And when I got back I was returning books back to the library.
For August 28 Parker and I were putting the books back on the fiction shelves. I file them by the last name of the author. If the author has many titles thenI file them by the titles of the books.

Today in Media Aide, we used the handheld scanner and scanned all the books on top of the shelves. I checked in books and activated their scanners. When I finished activating their scanners, Mirina checked to see if their scanners worked.

Today in Media Aide, Mikayla checked in books while I watched, she was really good at it. After she was done scanning the books, I went to the book cart to put the books back on the shelves, which was sort of tiring because I went to one shelf to another and I had to bend down to put the books on the lower shelf, which was a bad idea because my legs are very sore from cross country. Then we still had extra time so now we're blogging about what we did today, soooooooo boring, but sometimes it's fun.

Then Kaylee, Mikayla, Hayley, and I helped, once again checked in books, surprisingly there wasn't a class that came in to check out books, but there was an eigth grade class that came in the library to study and read. Next we put stamps on the books so whenever somebody checks out a book and they had other books from another library and they mixed the books together, that person will know which book goes to the library and which book goes to Madison Meadows Library.

After that, we stamped all the new books on the inside front cover, the inside back cover, page 33, the top, the side, and the bottom. The last thing we did was put censors in the books.

Today it seemed that we were all off our game, because we did our job slowly today especially me. We taped the barcodes of books and also the callnumbers. I helped cut tape which for some reson was difficult for me, and I also put the genre stickers on the books. It was a fun class and hopefully next time I can do a little bit better.
